VHP, Bajrang Dal Seek Removal of ‘Objectionable’ Poem from Gujarat Deepotsavi Ank
October 23, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has urged Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to immediately remove a poem by Aziz Tankarvi from the state government’s Gujarat Deepotsavi special Diwali publication, alleging that certain verses hurt Hindu religious sentiments.
In a letter dated October 23, 2026, Ashwin Patel, VHP’s Kshetra Mantri for Karnavati, objected to verses referring to Lord Ram, Bharat and devotee Meera Bai in the poem published on page 389 of the annual issue brought out by the state government’s Information Department.
The VHP alleged that the verses were objectionable and amounted to an insult to Hindu faith. It said the publication of such content in a government-issued festive edition was deeply concerning.
The organisation has made three key demands: immediate removal of the poem from the current issue, strict action against the author and officials responsible for approving the content, and measures to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents in future government publications.
The VHP also called for greater scrutiny of content before it is included in official publications, urging the state government to take prompt action on the matter. DeshGujarat
