Gujarat Congress Questions Higher PNG Prices in State Compared to Rajasthan
November 04, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Congress on Wednesday questioned the disparity in piped natural gas (PNG) prices across cities, alleging that consumers in Gujarat were paying more for domestic cooking gas than those in neighbouring Rajasthan, despite being served by the same companies.
Addressing a press conference at the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) headquarters, party spokesperson Parthivrajsinh Kathavadia said Adani Gas consumers in Ahmedabad were charged Rs 1,473.90 per million British thermal units (MMBTU), compared with Rs 1,258.88 per MMBTU in Rajasthan’s Udaipur, Chittorgarh and Bhilwara. The difference amounts to nearly Rs 215 per MMBTU. He also highlighted variations in PNG prices across cities and towns within Gujarat.
Kathavadia further said Gujarat Energy, formerly known as Gujarat Gas, charged consumers in Gujarat Rs 1,377.04 per MMBTU, while its customers in Rajasthan paid Rs 1,321 per MMBTU, marking a difference of Rs 56 per MMBTU.
“Why should Gujarat consumers pay more than those in Rajasthan?” he asked, urging the state government to intervene and take up the matter with gas distribution companies to ensure uniform pricing across cities. DeshGujarat
