Gujarat HC issues notices to Kejriwal, CIC on Gujarat Univ petition
June 20, 2016
Ahmedabad:
The Gujarat High Court today issued notices to the Chief Information Commissioner and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on a petition filed by the Gujarat University in connection with the row over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s post graduate degree.
The Court of Justice S H Vora issued the notices to the CIC and Delhi Chief Minister on the petition challenging their authority to seek information regarding the post graduate degree of Mr Modi obtained from the university in 1981 as a MA external student. Former Advocate General of Gujarat Shelat appeared on behalf of the university.
V C of University M N Patel said that the university has contended that the Delhi Chief Minister or the CIC has no authority to seek explanation from the university.
Notably, in an attempt to clear the ‘controversy’ around the educational qualifications of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Gujarat University, his alma mater from where he had taken his MA (external) degree, had in May this year put his original marks sheet in public domain. The prestigious university had put the scanned copies of the original mark sheets of Mr. Modi and another related document on its website.
It shows a total of 499 marks to Mr Modi’s credit in the MA external exam with a remark of first class. The Part 1 mark sheet issued in the year 1981 shows 237 marks to his credit while the Part 2 marks are 262.
