SMC to remove 40 speed breakers and reduce 44 traffic circles
June 20, 2024
Surat: The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has decided to remove 40 speed bumps and reduce or eliminate 44 large traffic circles within 7 days to improve traffic flow. This decision was taken in a meeting chaired this week by Rajan Patel, Chairman of the SMC’s standing committee, along with traffic cell officials and police officers.
The move comes in response to ongoing issues faced by commuters, particularly delays caused by poorly designed traffic circles and impediments like speed bumps. These obstacles often affect traffic movement, leading to congestion and frustration among drivers.
Specific traffic circles identified for redesign include Yogi Chowk, Mahavir Chowk, Golden Circle, Gaushala Circle, Maharana Pratap Chowk, and others. The redesign process will be based on survey reports conducted by the traffic police.
Additionally, speed breakers will be removed from key junctions such as Valak Junction, Laskana Char Rasta, VT Circle Sarthana, Yoginagar-BRTS, and other locations across the city. DeshGujarat
