All you want to know about Narendra Modi’s Pune visit on 1st November

Pune, 31 October, 2013

Gujarat chief minister and BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Shri Narendra Modi will visit Pune on November 1 to inaugurate the expanded part of Deenanath Mangeshkar Super Speciality Hospital. The old Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital building was inaugurated by former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee.

Since the new facility is adjacent to the old hospital in the Erandavane area, there is no adequate space for organising public function there. Hence the inauguraal function would be held at the Garware College Ground on Karve Road. Lata Mangeshkar, who has got this hospital built in memory of her father Late Deenanath Mangeshkar, and noted flautist Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia will be present for the inauguration.

The hospital has a 600-bed capacity with various super specialities such as nuclear medicine centre, bone marrow transplant facility, kidney and liver transplant facility, oncology centre with stem cell treatment, cath lab, joint replacement centre, plastic surgery, spine surgery and a 60-bed infant section.

On city BJP unit’s request Modi will address the public for at least 20 minutes after his arrival at Pune airport at around 1.30 pm.

In the backdrop of serial blasts at Narendra Modi’s Patna rally, two officers from Gujarat police and teams from Pune police have reviewed the security arrangements for his visit on November 1.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (special branch) M B Tambade said, “On Monday, we reviewed security arrangements at places to be visited by Modi. A team from Gujarat police has come to Pune. After the blasts in Patna, we have carried out rigorous checks at all places.”

Tambade added, “We have met organizers from both venues(the hospital and the college ground). Fixed point bandobast has been deployed. Bomb detection and disposal squad and quick response teams have been kept on stand by.” Joint Commissioner Sanjivkumar Singhal has also taken stock of the security.

This would be the Gujarat chief minister’s fourth visit to the city since March 2012. Apart from the one closed-door event held in the March last year, the remaining two events were public rallies. Modi’s latest visit comes weeks after he was announced as the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate for the upcoming elections.

After concluding his visit to Pune, Modi will fly to Patna where on next day morning he will visit the families of 27 October Hunkaar rally blasts victims.
