Gujarat to convert economic slowdown into an opportunity:Modi
Delhi, 16 November, 2008

Gujarat Chief Minister, Shri Narendra Modi vehemently advocated for evolving a global model of Inclusive growth. Modi said that traditional paradigms should give way to innovative and bold initiatives.
Shri Narendra Modi was speaking on the theme-session of “New Paradigms for Securing Inclusive Growth” in the India Economic Summit 2008, organised by World Economic Forum in New Delhi today.
Gujarat Chief Minister firmly emphasised that while considering inclusiveness, there must be paradigm shift in mindset of rich countries and developed nations.
The basic problem of world scenario today is that rich countries consider and dictate the poor and underdeveloped countries as others. They should not dictate but should create structures where everyone’s voice is heard.
Shri Narendra Modi also lamented the undemocratic structure of the World Bank and the International Monitory Fund. These two financial institutions are mostly playing role of the representatives of developed countries. They also should change the mindset and should work for the poor and underdeveloped nations.
On the role of United Nations Organisation (UNO), he suggested that while the UNO succeeded in stopping another world war, this organisation could not do anything against global terrorism which is a proxy war with inhuman mindset.
In order to make paradigm shift for inclusive growth, we have to change our thinking and strategy. Referring to Indian Five Year Plan strategy, Shri Narendra Modi strongly emphasised for overall review of all the ten Five Year Plans and evaluate their strengths, weaknesses and the common thread to strengthen nation’s economy.
Elaborating “the Gujarat Model of Inclusive Growth” Shri Narendra Modi said that on the foundation of five basic thoughts, Gujarat has executed paradigm shift in State’s governance. Gujarat had proved that development can be a holistic and can be made a mass movement. We empower people with partnership and stakes, with knowledge and skills, with tools of technology. He quoted, launching various state wide campaigns like Nirogi Bal Varsh involving people at large to address critical issues.
Shri Modi said that the fruits of growth and development must reach to the last person, to the weakest person, to the remotest – “unto the last”. Without this any growth is neither a sound economic theory nora sound ethical approach.
He narrated the revolutionary success in Water Management, Agricultural growth, speedy justice through Evening Courts initiatives, Healthy Child Year movement, PSU’s turn around etc and said that Gujarat Government has focused more attention on the special needs of the most backward regions and also carved out strategy for 30 most backward Talukas to bring them into mainstream of development.
Gujarat is poised one step ahead in good governance and marching towards proactive governance, he added.
Mr Modi also said that in Gujarat he has planned to convert the present economic slowdown into an opportunity. While elaborating this concept he said that presently, cement and steel prices are low. Hence, he will concentrate on building infrastructure and houses for the poor. With this he will address three issues infrastructure at low cost; employment to people and demand in the cement and steel industry which will keep them going. Also, their employees will not be retrenched.
Mr Klaus Schwab, Founder and Executive Chairman of World Economic Forum applauded Gujarat Chief Minister’s initiatives in all round development of state and said that Mr Modi is a visionary leader with clarity of thought. He also said that Mr Modi is not only has clear ideas and sound strategy, but has also implemented them. Mr Klaus was highly impressed by the achievements of Gujarat.
While Gujarat is going to be “an International Financial Hub” with upcoming GIFT City concept, it is also encouraging “Rurban Culture” development model Mr Modi said while answering a question.
He invited the industrialists and economists to attend Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit being organised on 12-13th January 2009 in Ahmedabad as well as Gems and Jewelery Event to be held in Surat on 26-27th December 2008. Shri Modi also appealed them to become a partner in growth model of Gujarat which is robust, sustainable and inclusive.

Excellent Mr. Modi, we are proud of you.
Mr. Modi is just like another SARADAR PATEL; born again on our motherland India.
VANDE MATARAM
It is pathetic to see our CM Shri Modi Ji is diverting our tax payers time in giving lectures, interviews and self-patting activities after Late Shoharabudin blessed him with a victory. All Gujaraties want to see him in the office to do his ” Karm Yogi ” work quitely like the way he wants. There is no ponit in hanging arround in DiLLiS Gali for so-called standing ovation. Gujaraties are well known for their bussines acumenship with or without any CM. It is an insult to all Gujaraties when he claim all developement credit in his name. Gujarat was a vibrant state even before BJP regime. I would like to see our CM simply focus on his mandated work in Gujarat only, he should Not forget he is CM of Gujarat, Not PM of India.
Jay Jay Garvi Gujarat.
woooww my Gujarat c.m is great, miracle man. i know that it is also successful as of Gujarati people but the way he speak and control and command of speech is amazing since i heard him when he took charge in 2001 Oct. he is same as now also. at that time i also feel that modiji sir must go forward without worry about 12 people of news channel. the killing of Muslim is consider as an action rather than genocide. i am not saying that we have ti kill them but long term this kind of diseases(Muslim religious) people must be out from mainsteam politics. as a country we have to take care of our self rather than this malice(bad) Muslim which is influence by western interest. after 50years this kind of dangerous religious groups is very much threat to india. mostly congress party are also support of bad Muslims. this is there past, so as a common man or women , we must think like that.people are becoming mad about obama. what is obama ?it is just hype. look the record of world leaders since past 100y, you never find like modiji. he emerges where we are very bad time in india. nobody is believe in politician in india. but when he come to power , people got a hope.otherwise gujarati people never give money to bad politician.
i has very high esteem and confidence that sir modiji must lead the nation in right direction. as you have both knowledge of economic , politics and religious. as i am spiritual but i believe in good things with time change.
thanks a lot modiji.
bharat jay.
god bless india.
Modi saheb please encourage industries in Gujarat to do Barter Trading with other countries especially those countries that have lot of interesting commodities and goods but do not have enough foreign exchange. There are many such small countries especially in Africa and south america which have lots of mineral ores, coffee beans, cocoa beans etc which we can trade with and re-package, re-brand and export to other developed countries. Port SEZs can handle this very well. Let a non-foodgrain commodity exchange act as a mediating agency facilitating barter trading between our companies and those of foreign countries.
This reduces the impact of western financial crisis on our markets and gives us alternative markets where our companies can expand. Besides it saves us from problems that US dollar is going to face in the future.
OH..OH MY PATEL BROTHER… WHY DID YOU GET SO JEALOUS OF OUR GREAT CM. IF HE HAS DONE SO MUCH IN LAST 7 YEARS,HE HAS EVERY RIGHT TO TAKE CREDIT,BUT DON’T FORGET HE SHARES CREDIT WITH HIS ALL GUJARATI PEOPLE.YES GUJARAT WAS VIBRANT BEFORE BJP IN NOT PAYAING TAXES,CORRUPTION,LAGVAG,GAREEBEE,NO DRINKING WATER, NO ELECTRICITY AND NO EDUCATION FOR GIRLS…AND THE LIST GOES ON….IF YOU CAN’T SAY GOOD THINGS ABOUT A PERSON WHO HAS DONE SO MUCH FOR THE SOCIETY THEN I THINK THE PROBLEM IS NOT HIM, IT’S YOU. WHERE WERE YOU WHEN LEADERS REALLY WERE WASTING TAX PAYERS TIME AND MONEY WERE GOING IN POCKETS? DON’T JUST THINK FOR YOUR SELF,GUJARAT IS NOT ONLY MADE OF PATELS,THERE ARE MANY POOR AND UNDERPREVILIGED PEOPLE THAT HE HAS HELPED. IF HE HAD WAITED FOR PM TO TAKE CARE OF THINGS GUJARATIS MUST HAVE BEEN STILL UNDER RUBBLES OF EARTHQUAKE!!! INDIAN TIMES & INDIAN CLOCKS ARE STILL IN GOVERNMENT AND IT TAKES YEARS FOR ONE PROJECT TO GET DONE. MODIJI HAS CHANGED ALL THAT AND GIVEN HOPE THAT GUJARAT AND INDIA CAN CHANGE,WILL CHANGE AND WILL BE IN THE LINE WITH OTHER NATIONS.LET ME TELL YOU MY PATEL BROTHER IF PERSON LIKE MODI IS YOUR PROBLEM YOU SHOULD LEAVE GUJARAT BECAUSE MORE PROJECTS ARE COMMING AND TAXPAYERS MONEY WILL BE USED FOR ALL PEOPLE.THANK YOU GOD FOR GIVING SUCH A GREAT LEADER.
This is CII press release on same subject

Narendra Modi defines three pronged approach for inclusive growth
[New Delhi, 16 November,2008] The world needs a paradigm shift in mindset to start thinking about humanity rather than thinking about nations as rich, developing or poor, said Mr. Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of Gujarat. The Chief Minister was addressing a session on “New Paradigms for Inclusive Growth” at the 24th India Economic Summit, jointly organized by Confederation of Indian Industry and the World Economic Forum in New Delhi. Mr. Modi, while talking about new models of inclusive growth urged the developed nations to listen to the voice of developing and poor nations by including them in the G-8 or G-20 meetings from time to time. Greater representation of developing nations in the World Bank and the IMF is also needed, he said.
The Chief Minister further mooted the idea of bringing all nations together on the issue of terrorism. “Terrorism is like a proxy war with the poor nations bearing the brunt. We can not change if we use traditional models or react with knee jerk strategies. There is a need to bring nations together on the issue of terrorism”, said Mr. Narendra Modi.
Putting forth the third important aspect of inclusive growth, Mr. Modi emphasized the importance of making development a mass movement and not that of an individual state or corporate house. “Each individual has to feel a part of the development movement. This is how Gujarat has developed a new model of inclusive growth”, he added. He gave details of how the state had achieved milestones in areas as diverse as agriculture, health and education and the judiciary. He said this is a good time to build infrastructure, as it will insulate the economy against recessionary forces.
Congratulating the Chief Minister for his success in achieving inclusive growth in Gujarat, Mr. Klaus Schwabb, Founder and Executive Chairman, World Economic Forum said “it is important to have a mass movement for inclusive growth”.
While speaking at the session, Mr. K.V.Kamath, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, ICICI Bank and President CII, said, “The Chief Minister has magically transformed the state of Gujarat in the last 7-8 years from a drought prone, power starved state into one of the most developed states of India”. In terms of industrial progress the Gujarat Government has been most receptive, welcoming industry and helping them establish their roots in the state, added Mr. Kamath.
Mr. Borge Brende, Managing Director, in charge of Governments, Regional Activities and Constituents, World Economic Forum, said “the 24th India Economic Summit would play a critical role as the world is currently characterized by many uncertainties”.
Modiji ne Vandan !!!
I really admire our CM Modiji for there holistic view on development.
Friends it is our honour to have CM like Modiji & its our duty to stand by him in all situation.
!!! Jai Hind !!!
My Dear Mr.KS or Ms.KS or Mrs.KS !!! I hope you read Gujarati or English NewsPapers. Recently either your Shri Modi Ji’s ” Karam Yogi ” or someone in the BJP regime leaked the deal between BJP Regime and Tata. At what cost Nano landed in Gujarat and the coming generation will pay for the subsided Nano. Now this Nano Deal is the talk of the Town in Gujarat. Gujaratis are Not known for these kinds of deal. I would like to draw your attention toward a deal where ADA Reliance did Not enter dispite it would have created Monopoly for him. When Hutch put it up for sale, first ADA Reliance showed interest but in the end because of high cost they pull out and British Vodafone got it in which its CEO Shri Arun Sharin played major role with the help of some UPA ministers. What my point was we need to come out of Modi Mania. It is not in the interest of Gujarat when he get unchecked power. You must have heared about ” Check and Balance ” theory. I hope you write the blog with some civility. Gujarat is my mother Land and if my CM is acting irresponsible I have a write to raise the issue after all I have elected him. I am Not going to do ” Aanth Bhakti “.
Jay Jay Garvi Gujarat.
mr jay patel can please explain how nano project is going to adversely affect gujarat
u seem to be very short sighted and have very little or no idea about business econonics
mr patels comment that mr modi is diverting tax payers time
mr patel can you perform even 1 % of what mr modi is doing
actually your comments seems totally pathetic against what great development work mr modi has done for gujarat
Modiji ne Vandan !!!
Dear all
I respect Narendra Modi for his commitment, passion, honesty and statesmanship. If you are staying in Ahmedabad, remember that there was water shortage, almost no development during last congress corporation. it is his team which is trying/ promoting everything-BRTS, flyovers, bridges, malls, wide roads, more universities, colleges. ask delhi people , whenever there is a meeting on economic issues in delhi and narendra modi is to speak, all the IAS officers of the central government make it a point to attend his lectures for his simple brilliance and excellent ideas. people say vibrabt gujarat is a big tamasha! so what it has changed the status and mentality of amdavadi. it has brought a new culture in amdavad. if government is spending in NANO so what, it has raised the status, confidence, reputation of amdavad.
kar kara ke kar jo nahi kar sake duja vo kar modi tu kar vo sabuhi jo na kar sake koi duja
kar kara kuch aissa kar nam jabhi koi le tera to bas tera nam ho gujarat ka sardar kare har vo kaj jo kare bhala jantaka aur janta ka aur janta hi ka….
Well Jay Patel may have his own view point. But Mr. Modi also has the right to share his view point at appropriate platform. Gone are the days of silent workers. Nowadays if workers need to be vocal also otherwise non-workers will be vocal and capture attention and win elections on pathetic issues, which was previous trend.
Hence to avoid all this silent workers should now become vocal workers so that wrong persons(non workers) do not occupy positions.
I love what hardik says, Jay please go to west bangal where mamta is waiting for you.
dear jay,
in 1995 I went to saurashtra by bus from Ahmedabad ( Condition of bus was very bad), I saw kids playing cricket in sabarmati river ( as there were no water) as soon as kheda ends I heardly found any greenery in saurashtra, the roads were like night mere.(THANKS TO CONGRESS) I again went to saurashtra in 2008 by bus from ahmedabad (condition of bus greatly improved), Sabarmati was full with water (due to narmada project) I didnot recognize when kheda ended. I found the magic of greenland.(Thanks to sujaram sufalam yojana) I ask one guy how this mirecle happened. I heard only one word. “MODI”. He is keeping all the gujaratis together for growth including minorities. SO PLEASE SEE THE TRUTH BY EYES dont just follows so called intellectual TV News channel analists.
