Highlights of Ahmedabad civic budget 2009-10

Here are some highlights of The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s year 2009-10 budget that was announced yesterday.
Bhadra Chowk development
The road from Tran Daewaza to Bhadra’s Mahakali temple will be developed under the guidence of an architect with walkways, fountains, benches, lighting, beautification and landscaping at a cost of Rs. 2.5 crore.
Gujarat’s history on Kankaria lake wall
The paintings depicting the history of Ahmedabad and Gujarat, success stories of the Gujarati people will be painted on the Kankaria lake wall with the help f architects and artists at a cost of Rs 1 crore. Roads leading to Kankaria will be modernised at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore.
Streetlights for new west zone
New west zone areas(between SG Highway and SP Ring Road) will get new streetlights at a cost of Rs 2 crore.Rs 10 crore have been allotted for sewage network for new west zone.
100 new feeder buses
100 feeder buses with an investment of Rs 5 crore will be introduced at a cost of Rs 5 crore.With increase in the area under the AMC and the introduction of Bus Rapid Transit System(BRTS) feeder buses would be useful to ferry the commuters from various areas to BRTS bus stops and vice-versa. The buses would be in addition to the present fleet of 750 AMTS buses and 50 BRTS buses.
Law Garden food street will be regularised
The Law Garden eatery market would be regularised. The standing commitee has asked the municipal commissioner to get the design and policy prepared. The regularisation will help generate employment and will help the civic body to keep a close watch on the quality of food served there.
Gandhi Ashram to become a Silence Zone
Gandhi Ashram would be developed as a heritage complex and will become a silence zone. The AMC plans to spend Rs 152 crore approved by the government of India in this project. The Dandi bridge will also be developed. The AMC has allotted Rs 2 crore for design of this project.
Plot walls will have a designer look
Walls of all the vacant plots under AMC, Gujarat Housing Board, Slum Clearance Board and AUDA will be designed newly. The project has been implemented in a plot neat Jahanvi Restaurant. 8 feet high compound walls will cover water and drainage pumping stations.Rs2 crore are allotted for this.
Rathyatra route development
Footpaths on traditional Rathyatra route will be interlocked. The AMC has allotted Rs 50 lakh for this.
Housing for urban poor
The AMC will construct more than 2,000 houses for urban poor in addition to the planned 18,000 residences.
New indoor stadium
New indoor stadium will be developed at the backside of the Sardar Patel Stadium in Navrangpura.
Thaltej lake development
A lake located at Thaltej area will be developed.
Kitchen at Tagore hall
A kitchen would be set up in the open plot of Tagore hall in Paldi area. New commuinity halls will be developed in Isanpur, Girdharnagar and Naroda road wards.
New civic centres
New civic centres will be set uup at Chandkheda, Ramol and Viratnagar. Civic centres are useful for procedures such as issuing a birth certificate etc.
New over bridge in Gota
An over bridge at Gota has been planned in the budget at a cost of Rs. 10 crore. The proposed bridge would connect Chandlodiya, Jagatpur, Chenpur and Ghatlodiya and new areas like Gota, Ognaj, Vadsar and Lapkaman to Gandhinagar.
