Gandhinagar, DeshGujarat, 17 June, 2010
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today kicked off three-day long state-level school enrollment movement from north Gujarat’s bordering Vav taluka’s Rupanivas, Koreti and Mamana village.
Modi distributed Vidhya Lakshmi Bond, education kit and toys to children enrolled in schools here. He also distributed prizes like notebook, pencil, eraser, to toppers of standard 1 to 3. Modi sat in bullock kart at Koreti village, where he was welcomed by the villagers. The children presented ‘tree-story’ at each village that the Chief Minister visited. The ‘tree-story’ experiment evokes environment awareness among children. The public meeting was conducted by children only at schools.
Modi catered nutritious mid-day meal to children himself and sat with the children in a row for lunch. Modi said, “this government spent a decade in correcting the things, such as primary education enrollment. Prior to year 2009, 40 out of 100 children used to leave the schools. The figure has come down to two now.”
