“Sardar Patel had powerful personality, his statue that I am making presently will reflect this element,” Padma award winner statue-maker Ram Sutar told DeshGujarat on Friday.

Ram Sutar is currently working on Shri Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel statue for Airport Authority of India(AAI).

Sardar’s statue is to be installed at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel international airport.

“AAI has given me three-month time limit to complete the statue. Accordingly I will finish the work for this statue by the end of December,” Ram Sutar told DeshGujarat over telephone.

Sutar said the statue would be 18 ft tall(from foot to head). “This is standard size for statues in parliament campus,” he adds.

Sutar had previously made Sardar Patel’s statue for parliament campus. He says the statue he is currently making for Ahmedabad airport is similar to that is parliament campus.

“Sardar’s powerful personality is visible in his walking style in this statue,” Sutar said.

Sources close to central Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel told DeshGujarat that the statue will be unveiled on 14th of January 2011 and the minister will come to the city to dedicate it.

It should be mentioned that while there are many statues of Sardar Patel in Ahmedabad and Gujarat, the airport statue will be the tallest. At present a village called Bhadam near central Gujarat’s Rajpipla town has tallest statue of Sardar Patel which is measuring 17 ft.
