President Pratibha Patil today arrived at Bhavnagar airport in special aircraft and continued her journey to Diu island through helicopter from here. Patil will spend seven days in Diu and leave the island on 7 January(according to some reports 6 January).
During her Gujarat trip in October 2009, Patil had visited Diu island only for some time, but even during this short visit she was impressed with the beauty of this place. Thus she decided to enjoy a new-year-day of year 2011 in Diu.
After becoming the President of India, Mrs. Patil has visited 17 nations(details given below). She has also extensively toured across the country. In year 2009 she visited Gujarat’s Gir forest with buses full of her relatives from Maharashtra.
According to Gujarat Samachar report from Bhavnagar, one Air India’s head caterer chef Jaygopal had arrived a day before at Bhavnagar to arrange President’s vegetable sandwiches, biscuits, cookies, coconut water, watermelon juice, fruit salad, tea and coffee.
According to same report there were 50 persons accompanying the President and three choppers arranged for journey from Bhavnagar airport to Diu airstrip.
