Surat, 25 January, 2011

First phase construction of Tapi river front project will cover about 54.45 Hector land and take place over 2.75 km long stretch of the river in Gujarat’s second largest and India’s fastest developing city Surat.

Rs. 44 crore project will include a festival ground, food plaza, mega parking area for 2200 four wheeler, and 3000 two wheelers, walk way with green belt, bicycle track, a big garden, mini floral park, ponk nagar, ecological park, and a memorial park presenting the story of Surat’s legends.

About 7800 people living in Tapi river slums of Bapunagar, Naherunagar, Subhashnagar, JP nagar, Jalaram nagar, Iqbal nagar etc will be relocated to new houses built by the Surat Municipal Corporation. State’s Road and Building and irrigation departments will transfer their about 1 lakh square meter land to Surat Municipal Corporation on token rate.

    Well, looks like you have not tried (eat) Ponk? Ponk is a roasted young/tender Juvar dana (seeds). They are roasted and removed from the husk. Ponk is eatedn with chteny and chhas (butter milk) and spicy ponk-vada. You will love it. I have eaten in USA as some Ponk lovers try their luck here by planing Jawar in their back yard!

    There was a place near Rander for this delicacy and now there land is free city decided to make a PonkNagar so that you can enjoy every year otherwise land is so expensive you won’t find chula place to roast ponk. this dedicated land secure the future of ponk makers and lovers!
