Surendranagar’s four dams including Dholidhaja overflow

According to Nitinbhai Kapadia, incharge of Dholidhaja dam, the overflowing level is 0.10 at present. Kapadia said if there’s further rain in upstream areas, more overflow level at the dam is possible. He added that the dam is overflowing due to opening of gates at Nayka dam in upstream area. Dholidhaja dam’s water level is now above 20 ft. Low lying areas in downstream are alerted by the district administration.
Apart from Dholidhaja(Wadhwan) and Nayka(Muli), Surendranagar district’s two more dams Vasal(Chuda) and Trivenithanga(Chotila) are also overflowing now after yesterday’s heavy rain. Rajkot district’s important Lalpari reservoir is overflowing.There has been 6 ft increase noticed in Aaji and Bhadar dam’s water level in a day due to good rain in catchment areas.
In another development, six gates of Machhu-2 dam are opened to release overflowing water. Machhu-1 dam is now having 45 ft level of water storage. Fire brigade rescued 6 persons from Machhu river in a brief but challenging operation.
