Junagadh, 16 October, 2011
Gujarat Congress first took children infected with HIV virus to its counter-fast venue in Ahmedabad. Later the children were taken to Gandhinagar to meet Governor. But after all agitation when these thalassemic children needed blood again it was local BJP MLA who came to rescue. And it was the same local Sarvoday blood bank that helped them, even though the fact that the parents have filed police complaint against this blood bank.
23 children of Junagadh were found HIV positive after blood transfusion at government blood bank. Opposition Congress party made this one of the issues against the government and agitated.
Parents of the affected children filed police complaint with Congress leaders’ support.
However after high voltage controversy when parents again needed blood for their children, the blood donors refused to donate blood fearing that they too could become part of controversy.
Due to shortage of ‘B’ positive blood and refusal of donors, hospital contacted local BJP MLA Mahendra Mashru who immediately contacted BJP workers and searched and found three blood donors speedily. Finally, affected children were donated blood.
