Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today performed ground breaking for first phase works of Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project in Vastral area of Ahmedabad in presence. She said the first six km route of Tahltej-Vastral first phase will be completed by September 2016 at a cost of Rs. 611 crore.

Performing ground breaking of the first phase of Metro Link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad(MEGA), Anandiben said that then Chief Minister and present Prime Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi led government fulfilled its promise to provide efficient public transport system to Ahmedabad by approving Rs. 10,773 crore for first phase construction of Metro rail project. Chief Minister thanked Prime Minister on behalf of people of Gujarat for this during her speech.

She said the city of Ahmedabad will have speedy and easy transportation facility through combination of AMTS, BRTS and Metro rail.

It should be mentioned here that about 37.76 km long first phase of Metro project will have two routes. First route(East-West corridor) will connect Thaltej gam in west to Vastral gamin east and cover Thaltej, Doordarshan kendra, Gurukul road, Gujarat University, Commerce six roads, Stadium, Shahpur, Ghee Kanta, Kalupur railway station, Kankaria, Amraiwadi, Rabari colony and Nirant char rasta. Total length of this route is 20.31 km, of which 12.71 km will be elevated route while 6.6 km will be underground stretch. Ground breaking performed today is for 6 km of part of this East-West corridor.

The other route will be in North-South direction between APMC and Motera stadium covering Vasna, Anjali, Paldi, Madalpur, New Gandhigram, Usmanpura, Vadaj, Ranip, Sabarmati railway station, AEC Sabarmati etc area. It will have length of 15.29 km and will be completely elevated.

The project will be implemented by Metro Link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad(MEGA) company limited which will be a Special Purpose Vehicle. Presently MEGA company is Government of Gujarat enterprise.

Metro rail will be connected to BRTS, railway and other modes of public transport to develop a multi model transport service system.

Presented on this occasion were ministers Nitin Patel, Saurabh Patel, Pradipsinh Jadeja, Shankarbhai Chaudhary, Mayor, MLAs, Collector, MEGA Chairman Manjula Subramainam, Vice Chairman IP Gautam among others.
