Amid onset of withdrawal of monsoon and fading hope, Gujarat receives 3.14 % of season’s rain in 24 hours

Ahmedabad: Amid the onset of the withdrawal of South Western Monsoon, Gujarat received over 3% of its season average in the last 24 hours giving a big respite to the farmers lessening the gap of rain deficiency further.

Meanwhile the Met Department has again issued heavy rain warning for next 24 hours. It has attributed the upper air cyclonic circulation over South West Madhya Pradesh and South Gujarat for this The met bulletin says heavy rains are very likely at isolated places over South Gujarat region, Saurashtra and Diu, Daman Dadra Nagar Haveli in the next 24 hours.

In the last 24 hours a total of 184 talukas of 30 districts received some amount of rain while many talukas got heavy downpour with Palsana in Surat recording maximum of 139 mm (around 5.5 inches).

The state which is still around 20 % rain deficient this monsoon received 3.16 % of the season’s rain in the last 24 hours at a time when hopes of rain were fading. The state average has jumped to 78.17% from yesterday morning’s figure of 75.01% This has given a much needed respite to the farmers especially the groundnut growers in the state..

so far this season, 17 of the total 33 districts have received normal to above normal rains while remaining 16 were still deficient by various degrees. Region wise Kutch has received 66.10%, East Central Gujarat 68.73%, North Gujarat 74.58% South Gujarat 76.80 and Saurashtra 83.39% so far.

Valsad distirct in Gujarat has maintained its top position both in percentage as well as actual amount of rain with 104.54% and 2250 mm. Kutch with 259 mm was lowest recipient of rain quantitatively while Vadodara at 46.84 % was lowest percentage-wise across the state though its actual amount of rain was 421 mm.

Jamnagar (104.04%), Aravalli (102.55%), Gir Somnath (101.11%) are the other three district with over 100% rain figures.

Ahmedabad which received 32 mm or rain in the city in last 24 hours (15 mm district-wise) was still heavily rain deficient (around 40%) and was only second to Vadodara in low % of rainfall with 52.23 % (357 mm).

In the last 24 hours the talukas across the state which received heavy rainfall are – Palsana 139 mm, Upleta 138mm Dhoraji 126mm,Jetpur 123mm, Mahuva (Bhavnagar) 122mm, Jalalpor 122mm,Visavadar 119 mm, Navsari 111 mm, Amreli 102mm, Kodinar 100mm, Bagasra 98 mm,Dhari 93mm, Khambha 93 mm,Talaja 86mm, Jamkandorna 85mm, Mendarda 85 mm,Subir 82 mm,Talala 79 mm,Vallabhipur 79 mm, Waghai 79 mm, Lathi 78mm,Malia 76 mm,Bhavnagar 76 mm, Manavadar 74 mm,Jafrabad 72 mm,Vadia 72 mm,Dangs (Ahwa) 70 mm,Sutrapada 69 mm, Waghodia 66 mm,Junagadh 64 mm,Jesar 64 mm,Umrala 64 mm, Kutiana 63 mm, and Valod 63 mm among others.
