Monsoon rain witnessed at several places, heavy rain spells likely to continue

Ahmedabad/Rajkot/Surat/Vadodara: After throwing life out of gear at some places in South and Central Gujarat yesterday with over 10 inches of rain at some places in Valsad district, Monsoon remained somewhat moderate today however many places across state witnessed rains today as well.

The spell of heavy rain is likely at some places late night while met has predicted heavy to very heavy rains in next 24 hours and beyond that under the effect of an upper air cyclonic circulation over south Gujarat and neighbourhood. Monsoon is likely to cause downpour at several places in Central and North Gujarat on June 28 and 29.

Surat and Valsad witnessed around an inch of average rain today which gave some relief to the people. 15 people of two families trapped in rain caused flood in their submerged homes in Daruthi Khadi area in Valsad were rescued safely. The traffic on Vapi-Mumbai highway also saw some disruption.

Rajkot, Junagadh, Morbi, Amreli, Patan, Sabarkantha, Surendranagar, Kheda, Anand, Ahmedabad and other districts also witnessed light to moderate rains in several parts today.

Water logging occurred in low-lying areas of Junagadh and Rajkot owing to over an inch of rain.

In Ahmedabad, where the historic chariot procession of Jagannath temple took place today saw drizzles later in the evening which turned in to light rain in several areas. Rain during the end part of the rath yatra is deemed auspicious. In the district Bagodara, Dhandhuka and other places also witnessed rainfall.

Amid high humidity, rain and cloudy weather temperatures across the state continued to remain below 40°C. At Surat and Valsad the maximum temperature dropped even below 30°C.
