Police nabs a youth in Gujarat town who insulted tricolor ‘just for fun’

Bardoli: Police in Bardoli town of Surat district in Gujarat has nabbed a Muslim youth for intentional insult to Indian national flag by posting a picture depicting it in poor light on the social media.
Nizam Nisar Pathan (19), resident of Ahsiyana Nagar in the town, has been arrested under section 2 of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act 1971 which has a provision of punishment up to 3 years of jail or fine or both.
PI of Bardoli police station Jayesh N Panchal today said that he had posted a picture on the social media in which a man wearing boots was standing on the tricolor. The photo went viral after which he was arrested yesterday evening.
To a query he said that the youth works in a local motor garage and was not much educated and had a formal education only up to standard 9.
‘We will produced him before a court here this evening,’ he added saying that during primary interrogation he said that he had posted the picture just for ‘fun’.
