Vaghela’s MLA son angered at party’s decision to ban birthday event, says his father will never retire from politics

Gandhinagar: The MLA son of leader of opposition Shankersinh Vaghela, Mahendrasinh Vaghela has expressed anger over the decision of Congress to ban the entry of its MLA’s and other elected representatives in his father’s birthday event here today.

He also claimed that contrary to speculations his father won’t ever retire from politics.

Talking to newsmen the Bayad MLA today said that the event was an apolitical one and was held on the occasion of the birthday of his father and it was not fair to stop party-men from attending it.

‘On such occasions even the rival parties don’t stop their leaders from meeting and greeting,’ he said adding that it was like putting a ban on greeting some one on the occasion of Diwali or other festivals.

On being asked as to how many MLA’s were likely to attend the Sam Samvedana event defying party’s ban, he said he did not know about who would come and who won’t but as the son of his father he would certainly be there.

Talking about the Cross-voting by congress MLA’s in presidential election, Mahendrasinh said that in the over 50 year’s long public life of his father no one questioned his loyalty to the party he was associated with. ‘We are with the congress for past 20 years and our loyalty to the party was impeccable,’ he said.

He said that there should be no politics on ‘social and personal’ events.
