Congress led Savarkundala municipality fails to pass budget

Amreli:

In a jolt to Congress in the assembly constituency of party MLA Pradip Dudhat, who has been suspended from Gujarat assembly for 3 years for his unruly behaviour in the house, the budget of Congress led Savarkundala municipality in Amreli district was today rejected.

In the 36 member local urban body Congress was the ruling side with 20 members while BJP was in opposition with 16 seats.

But when the municipality president Kundan Adhia put forth Rs 40.69 crore budget in the budget meeting today, it was rejected.

There were a total of 6 Congress members who opposed the budget initially and of the total 33 present member of whom 13 were of BJP also opposed it. Looking at the prospect that the budget proposal might be defeated, other congress members also opposed it and it was technically rejected by consensus in a bizarre way.

BJP member Jaisukh Nakrani said that there were many scams in the budget and many of the Congress members who were fed up by the ‘terror’ of local MLA Dudhat, also opposed it.

Meanwhile vice president of municipality and congress leader Nasir Chauhan said that he thought it fit that the betrayers of the party should be flushed out.

A congress leader said that the party would convene the budget meeting twice soon so that it was rejected thrice consecutively and the rule in the local body goes in the hands of administrator paving way for fresh elections during which the betrayers of the party would be ousted.
