Despite late arrival this year in Gujarat, SW Monsoon crosses half-way mark of annual rainfall before July-end

Despite late arrival this year the South West Monsoon in Gujarat has now crossed the half-way mark of its yearly average in the state.

Monsoon which had arrived a bit early last year had reached almost a week late in the state this time around but by now over 52% of yearly monsoon rain average in the state has been recorded.

The state average at 0830am this morning was 51.35% (it crossed 52% mark during the day).

As per morning data, region-wise south Gujarat has so far seen the maximum of 67.53% followed by Saurashtra at 58.55%,East Central Gujarat 38.03%,North Gujarat 27.48% and the lowest as a region and district in Kutch at only 11.08%.
Other districts with scanty rain so far were mostly in North Gujarat region. Gir Somnath is the only district with more than hundred percent rain at 130.48% so far. In the last 24 hours 190 talukas of 29 districts had seen varying amount of rainfall with Umerpada in Surat district recording the maximum at 316mm.

Ahemdabad which was among over 140 talukas which witnessed rainfall today till 6pm in the evening has also improved its rainfall tally somewhat with around 2.5 inches of rain yesterday. It has so far seen around 21% of the seasonal average as district and over 22% in the city.
