Gujarat Congress vice president Dhiru Gajera leaves party

Surat: Former MLA and Gujarat Congress vice president Dhirubhai Gajera has resigned as primary member of Congress party. Gajera was fielded last year in general elections of Gujarat assembly from Varachha seat of Surat. Gajera is Saurashtra origin Patel from Surat. He is believed one of top financiers of Hardik Patel led Patidar quota agitation. Gajera is originally from BJP. He had joined Congress over a decade ago as a rebel.

On his resignation from Congress party, Gajera told media persons: ‘I had joined Congress party to revive it and I worked hard for that but Congress never care about those who come from outside or in other words from other party. Yes, I was given ticket to contest assembly seats but every time Congress office bearers only were working to defeat me. After losing four elections, I realize that people are not with Congress party. It is very clear that people are not with Congress. I was inactive for last six months. I have not gone to any Congress programme during last last six months. Congress leaders including state party chief and leader of opposition were very well aware that I was going to leave party, but none took effort to speak to me. Last year, there was good atmosphere for Congress’s come back but Congress couldn’t win. Ticket distribution had issues. I was not given ticket initially. It was due to insistence of Patidar (quota agitation) leaders that I was given ticket. I had asked party to field me from Kamrej seat but I was fielded from Varachha. Then Congress chief Bharatsinh’s men were working for BJP. I have contested four elections. I have always seen Congress workers working for BJP. I haven’t decided whether to rejoin BJP so far.’
