ACB arrests DySP for lodging false prohibition case with intention to take money from accused

Ahmedabad: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat police today said that it has arrested a DySP in connection with lodging a fake case under prohibition act with an intention to get money from the person made accused in it.

Assistant Director of ACB G V Padheriya in a press conference here today said that the fake case was lodged in Mandal police station of Ahmedabad district. The accused had approached the ACB on September 7 informing that police was demanding bribe from him.

Earlier a lok rakshak of the Mandal police station was nabbed red handed taking a bribe of Rs 75000. Two other policemen posted in Viramgam police station also involved in it were caught later. During the in-depth interrogation it has been established that DySP Viramgam V K Nayi was also involved in this conspiracy and the case was lodged in his presence. The CCTV footage of the day showed that he was present in the Mandal police station when the FIR was lodged.

Padheriya said that he was on the run since his involvement in it was established. He had also applied for anticipatory bail in a lower court and Gujarat High Court but his plea were rejected.

He had surrendered in the ACB office here on December 10 and is under interrogation. His remand till tomorrow has also been allowed by a local court.

Notably the ACB here had on the same day ie December 10 arrested an Indian Information Service official from his office taking bribe from an artist and it was the first ever arrest of such an official by the bureau so far.
