This is how patients and their care-takers were handled when Advani and Congress leaders visited blast victims at Ahmedabad’s Civil hospital

Politicians usually never visit poor peoples general hospitals but in extra-ordinary circumstances when they visit such hospital, they create problems. Just after one day of Ahmedabad bomb blasts, flocks of politicians paid visit to Civil hospital. They only created problems for relatives and care-takers of poor patients. Terrorists didn’t spare Civil hospital on Saturday. On Sunday, politicians were there for the same. Differently however.

Leader of opposition, L.K.Advani was scheduled to visit civil hospital at around 3:30 p.m. One hour before his scheduled visit, all the gates of main building in Civil hospital were closed. Some relatives and care-takers of patients who were outside the building for lunch or for buying medicines were not allowed to enter into the building. They could enter only after Advani left the place. Some other relatives and care-takers were forcefully taken out of the wards and lobbies and were compelled to sit on the floor inside G2 ward. They were strictly ordered not to move before Advani’s departure.

Widow mother whose bomb-blast victim son was admitted in burns ward said to DeshGujarat “I did not have my lunch today. I want to go outside the hospital for lunch but if I go, who will take care of my injured son admitted inside the burns ward? Somebody should be there. My relatives are standing outside the gate and they are ready to be with him but policemen, home guards and private security men altogether are not allowing my relatives to come inside. I am trapped here and they are standing outside. Since yesterday night, situation is like this in the hospital. First a chief minister visited, then governor arrived, now Advani and then Congressmen are going to pay visit”

In G2 ward, talking to DeshGujarat one old man said “I am from Saurashtra, my son is admitted on the first floor, but these security people are not allowing me to go there. My son’s medicines are with me in my pocket. I requested but security people denied entryl.”

Civil hospital’s first floor lobby was cleared before Advani’s arrival. Police used sticks and ran behind relatives of the patients. Media was not allowed in the building when Advani paid his visit. However representatives of DeshGujarat were inside. After Advani left from Civil hospital’s main building, people in different wards were jubilant as they were now free to move and suddenly lobbies were busy again.

“Advaniji has gone, it’s like a curfew being released. I would pray politicians that please don’t visit us. I respect Advaniji a lot but these security men are worst and Advaniji can’t control them, neither we. So better, Advaniji and other politicians skip visiting hospitals on such occasions in future.” one relative of bomb-blast victim told DeshGujarat.

Soon after Advani’s visit Congress leaders team from Delhi including Shankarsinh Vaghela, BK Hariprasad, Rajiv Shukla etc. in white impressive dresses, polished chappals and shampooed hair arrived in B-4 ward. Doors of this ward were closed again. Thanks God their visit was shorter than Advani’s. Some photographs were clicked, videos were captured, good words were spoken, no biscuits to children, no fruits for elders… and they left the place.
