BJP today supported Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s demand for an apology from a German delegation which had reportedly criticized him and insisted that the government seek a clarification from German ambassador on the issue.
“BJP demands that the Prime Minister should take the letter written by Modi seriously and act on it by seeking an explanation from German ambassador and asking him to apologize on the remarks of the delegation against the Chief Minister,” party spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman told reporters in New Delhi.
Modi had yesterday written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh demanding that a visiting parliamentary delegation from Germany should apologize for allegedly having tarnished the image of a democratically elected chief minister.
Meanwhile the German consulate in New Delhi kept mum on the issue even after repeated attempts of media persons to contact them for their reaction to Gujarat Chief Minister’s demand. TV channel Times Now flashed news that German consulate had not received Gujarat Chief Minister’s letter via Indian Prime Minister till Saturday evening.
In another development, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today halted in Germany on his way to America. Singh was received by Indian consulate in Germany on airport.
