Siddharth Patel with Junagadh’s Mayor and Deputy Mayor in Delhi

Gujarat Congress President and Mayor, Deputy Mayor of Congress ruled Junagadh Municipal Corporation on Monday rushed to New Delhi to take credit of central Environmental ministry’s ‘in-principal’ approval to Gujarat’s Girnar ropeway project.

According to sources, this was directed and managed by Delhi based Gujarat origin politician Ahmed Patel who is Political adviser of Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

Gujarat Congress President not only visited the central Enviornment ministry office today, but also called media there to announce the news of ‘approval to Girnar ropeway project.’

He showed the letter of approval to media persons in a fashion that it was his grand achievement. However the letter was not virgin document as it was also available online on very efficient website of central Enviornment and Forest ministry.

No need to say that Siddharth Patel targeted Gujarat government for delaying the project between 1995 and 2008 when Girnar was not declared sanctuary, and procedure was smoother to implement the project, without any need to seek central government’s permission.

Junagadh is Gujarat’s only city where Congress is in power in Municipal Corporation body. Junagadh’s Mayor Satish Captain present with Siddharth Patel in New Delhi told media persons that his party had promised to people of Junagadh for clearance to the Girnar ropeway project. “We have fulfilled our promise,” he said.

It should be noted that Gujarat’s Wildlife department officials had visited central minister Jairam Ramesh on 2 February, and modes on approval were discussed, and somewhat finalized in that meeting itself. According to sources, the Gujarat team came back and consulted the Chief Minister of Gujarat on the terms of approval. Later the central ministry was conveyed positive message, after which the final draft of ‘in-principal’ approval was prepared by the centre. Gujarat Congress leaders were asked to come to Delhi, and as soon as they met the central minister the draft of approval was given to them and it was also put on the website of the ministry.
