Funny enough:It’s Digvijay Sinh in Wikileaks, not Digvijay Singh!

Sometime even serious news can be fun due to fumble(we too commit fumbles sometime, mostly in language side, and rarely on factual side). Watch a screen-shot given above. It is about Congress leader Digvijay Singh’s talk with U.S. consulate about Narendra Modi narrated in wikileaks cable. There is photograph also present along with the article which shows Digvijay Singh(former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and central leader of Congress party).
Now actually the person mentioned as ‘Digvijay Sinhji’ in Wikileaks cable was not this Digvijay Singh(shown in photo with the article in one of the leading Gujarati websites), but he was Digvijay Sinhji, Yuvraj of Wankaner family of Saurashtra.
Digvijay Sinhji and Royal family of Wankaer is connected with the U.S. consulate office at Mumbai for last five decades. This is because the U.S. consulate office building in Mumbai was actually a Royal residence of the ruler of Wankaner in early last century. In recent past when 50th year celebration was held at U.S. consulate office in Mumbai, the royal family of Wankaner was called to attend that high-profile function, and honored too.
Entire Tuesday, section of Indian media put central Congress leader Digvijay Singh(former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister) in the place of Wankaner’s Royal family Yuvraj Digvijay Sinh while showing Modi/Wikileaks story. It is interesting to note that Yuvraj Digvijay Singh is former MP of Congress and he became Minister too in centre.
Following are the paragraphs narrating details about Digvijay Sinh’s talk with U.S. Consul General. It is clearly mentioned that this Digvijaysinhji is scion of the princely Wankaner family, however media is still funnily mentioning Madhya Pradesh’s Digvijay Singh and his photo in related articles, perhaps mistakenly, or deliberately to make their story spicier.

Consul General met at length with longtime former Congress party MP and former Minister of Environment Yuraj Digvijay Sinhji. Asked whether Modi could become a national leader, Sinhji (himself the scion of the princely Wankaner family and a Cambridge grad) sniffed that Modi “”lacks the polish and refinement”” to become a national leader. But Sinhji raised another reason why Modi could face challenges in becoming a national leader: Modi’s reputation for being completely incorruptible is accurate, and if he were to become a national leader he would crack down on corruption throughout the BJP. There are too many BJP rank and file waiting to line their pockets once the BJP returns to power, Sinhji said, and the prospect of Modi cracking the whip on corruption is entirely unappealing to this crowd. Modi would have a hard time clearing this hurdle, according to Sinhji.
15. (C) Sinhji raised an interesting point on communal harmony in Gujarat. The fact that Modi clearly has aspirations for national leadership makes him, ironically, one of the greatest protectors of communal harmony at this stage. Modi knows that another outbreak like 2002 would doom his chances, so he is going to be particularly zealous to ensure there are no further problems on his watch. Sinhji thought it unlikely that anyone would ever be brought to book for the 2002 violence as long as the BJP controls the Gujarat Government, but at the same time he expected communal harmony to improve as the GOG keeps a careful eye out to ensure there are no further provocations or violence.
