Further trouble for Sanjiv Bhatt? Siren purchase issue on move

Ahmedabad, 22 October, 2011

According to a report prepared by Gujarat Police IGP P.B.Gondia, suspended IPS cop Sanjiv Bhatt committed scandal by finalizing a purchase of Rs 20 crore sirens from a black-listed company, when he was DCP in Civil Defence department.

A report with completed investigation in this regard has been sent to state home ministry for further procedure.

These sirens were purchased for installation in districts and talukas to alert the people during war or calamities.

According to details coming in, a committee was formed for purchase of sirens, and Bangalore based had clearly 3-G wireless private limited had submitted its offer. However the committee was of opinion that said company was black listed by central government and therefore the order must not be given to it. However it is alleged that Sanjiv Bhatt approved the order to this company disregarding the committee’s decision. After Sanjiv Bhatt’s approval, his higher officer RMS Brar signed the order, but as said company was black listed by centre, the central government refused to give its 75% share in purchase of sirens, and therefore the state government had to bear cost of the sirens in a period of four years. The actual scheme was that the state govt had to share only 25%. An inquiry was then set up to investigate irregularities in this order and according to sources, Sanjiv Bhatt has been found as responsible.

Bhatt could face departmental inquiry and criminal procedure in this case if it is okayed by Home ministry. At present it seems, he would get charge sheet.
