Extra ordinary people continue to serve even after their death.

Homai Vyarawalla is the latest example.

She passed away in Vadodara at the age of 98/99 yesterday. Before her death she wished that photograph of her dead body should not be taken.

The newspapers therefore prominently carried out the photographs she had taken during her lifetime, along with the article on her demise.

Four major newspapers of Gujarat, namely Gujarat Samachar, The Times of India, Divya Bhaskar and Sandesh therefore selected and published Homai’s one of the best clicked photographs that features late Jawaharlal Nehru smoking a cigarette and offering it to the wife of then British High Commissioner to India.

So, the real Nehru was seen today morning by over a crore Gujaratis who read newspaper. Such photograph, and such aspect of Nehru would not come to light otherwise in popular print.

Here are some more photos of Nehruji, who ruled this nation post-independence for years.

Do they still describe Nehru as the icon of the children in agendised text books? If yes, will they put one of these photos in such chapter? No way.

Thanks Homai Vyarawalla. It was your sad demise, that gave this photo of Nehru a wide audience in mainstream print media. Otherwise it was limited to internet circulation,.

Great people continue to serve even after they pass away.

Presented below are more photos of late Shri Jawaharlal Nehru. One thing must be admired that Nehru wasn’t hypocrite
and allowed photographers to click such photographs freely.Today, not one leader would behave in this fashion in public. Neither one would allow such clicks, nor would give access to photographers during such moments. Enjoy more pictures below.

(Having said this, we would like Chief Minister Narendra Modi to think over the suggestion moved by Mumbai based journalist Nikhil Wagle yesterday on Twitter that Gujarat government should constitute an award for photography named after late Homai Vyarawalla. Late legendary woman photographer had recently visited Gujarat Chief Minister’s Sadbhavana fast function in Vadodara to bless the CM)
