Once this city asked me to go,today garlanding:Big B nostalgic in Rajkot

Ahmedabad, 24 January 2012

Though Rajkot was just a passing through city on way to Junagadh for Amitabh Bachchan yesterday, the city occupied one third part of his blog post. Bachchan was nostalgic about Rajkot recollecting how once upon a time this same city opposed him and asked to go.

Bachchan recalled and blogged how he had faced the ire and wrath of demonstrations against him during the shooting of ‘Main Azaad Hoon’ in Rajkot in connection with false allegations on the Bofors matter. Bachchan said, black flags were waved against him wherever he went by senior citizens, students and others. Bachchan recalled how he was painted as a traitor of the country at that time, and was asked to go back, but he stuck in with his work and after completing he returned.

Bachchan added, “Today life had changed. We fought the accusations against us in some of the major courts of the world, won and proved to those that had accused us that they were wrong and we were right. The real persons involved were named by the courts after intense judicial and intelligence procedures and efforts are on still to proceed against them legally. Today the airport is not as unwelcome as before. Today the media generously waits to capture the moment of my arrival. There is jubilation in the eyes of the public and garlands and flowers and gifts in place of the black flags.”

“It took a while, but it proved that justice done was correct and faultless and all prevailing. I do not and never shall look upon it as a vindication, but instead look upon it as a portion of the learning process that life has to offer. Yes the public has a right to express their anger, but they equally are responsible for showing love on realizing that the facts were incorrect,” Bachchan further added.

In reference to Rajkot, Bachchan said in his blog post that he and his wife Jaya had initiated a blood bank which has grown now and has become one of the leading blood banks of the country.
