Modi to open India’s 2nd largest,Gujarat’s biggest jail

Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate the second biggest jail of India at Surat on 26th of February. The building of multi-storeyed three-floor jail is now ready standing over 50 acres of land at Lajpore in Surat. The central jail with capacity to accommodate 3,000 prisoners at a time has been constructed at a cost of Rs 80 crore.

The jail has a full size ground for football, cricket and other games. Around 2,000 prisoners can sit at one place in the ground.

The entire premises of this jail is covered with the eyes of 400 high resolution CCTV surveillance cameras. Special scanners are placed at the entry and exit points of the jail. Jammers will insure that nobody can use cell phone inside the jail premises.

The jail has a 40-bed hospital that includes the facility of laboratory. Women prisoners are allotted 12 separate barracks.

The jail department has recently inducted 107 jail assistants. The were trained in Sabarmati central jail. Some of them will be posted in Surat jail.

Surat has one district jail that has 1600 prisoners at present against capacity of 300.

Rajkot central jail

The city of Rajkot will get a new central jail on 26th of this month with Surat. Rajkot central jail will have a capacity to accommodate 1,000 to 1,200 prisoners.
