A bill renaming Bhavnagar University as Maharaja Krushnakumarsinhji University passed in assembly unopposed

Gujarat’s Bhavnagar University will be known as Shri Krushnakumarsinhji University. Gujarat assembly today passed a bill The Bhavnagar University (Amendment) Bill, 2012 in this regard unanimously.
Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi had made an announcement to name Bhavnagar University as Maharaja Krushnakumarsinhji University in Bhavnagar in January this year.
The city of Bhavnagar is presently celebrating the 100th birth anniversary of late ruler Shri Krushnakumarsinhji.
Born on 19th of May, 1912, Shri Krushnakumarsinhji became Bhavnagar’s ruler succeeding Shri Bhavsinhji in 1919 AD at the age of seven. He was the first Indian ruler who gave away his state to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for formation of union of India. Shri Krushnakumarsinhji was later appointed as Governor of Madras.
Gujarat’s Vadodara also has a university named after former ruler late Maharaja Shri Sayajirav Gaekwad.
