How Gujarati newspapers attempted to make readers fool?

By DeshGujarat News, Ahmedabad, 1 April, 2012

Come 1st April, and Gujarati vernacular dailies would not miss a chance to mark the day with a news item attempting to make readers fool.

To mark the 1st April this year, leading Gujarati daily Gujarat Samachar published a news item on porn-actress Sunny Leone’s Ahmedabad visit. The news item informed the readers that Sunny would be in Ahmedabad’s Karnavati club at 10.00 am and would judge the performances of local entertainers. The story also mentioned that Sunny praised Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. The story urged local performers to reach Karnavati club to participate before Sunny. A photo of porn-star Sunny Leone showing half of her chest was published within the post(which is too common on Gujarat Samachar’s website these days).

Another Gujarati daily Sandesh published a story suggesting that from midnight today, the multiplexes and theaters would start showing Adult films, as they are permitted to do so. Sandesh in its April fool story announced that advance booking of adult film shows would start from 9.00 am in some theaters. Sandesh published Natalie wood’s topless photo(with black block over some parts) with a fictitious film name ‘Dirty bedrooms’.

Sandesh too dragged Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, and said that the Chief Minister allowed blue films shows in the state between 12.00 – 4.00 am to make the state truly world-class. Sandesh in its story also mentioned fictitious quotes of Gujarat Congress leaders Arjun Modhwadia and Shankersinh Vaghela opposing government’s this step.

Another daily Divya Bhaskar didn’t publish any April fool story in print, but on its website it published a news item suggesting that Sonia Gandhi would replace Dr. Manmohan Singh as the Prime Minister of India on Monday.
