Modhwadia's latest issue with govt involves pet dogs, pigs and rabits

Ahmedabad, 2 April, 2012

Gujarat Congress President Shri Arjun Modhwadia today complained that he was given incorrect reply in the assembly on his query on figures of animals, type-wise and district-wise, existing in the state.

Shri Modhwadia said that he had asked figures of district-wise and type-wise animals in the state on 31st of March 2011 in the assembly, but was given wrong figures.

Giving an example Shri Modhwadia said that the government in its reply said there were 2,400 pet dogs in Ahmedabad district, while 62,261 pet dogs in Banaskantha district, which could not be possible!

“Similarly the government said in its reply that there was not a single pig in Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Dahod, Porbandar, Surendranagar and Vadodara district, while in Ahmedabad district there were only five pigs,” Modhwadia said adding that “this fact is incorrect because there are thousands of pigs actually in these cities.”

Modhwadia said the government showed population of just 9107 rabbits in entire state, which is again difficult to believe because the figure seems too less.

Modhwadia was also not ready to believe the figure of number of horses, which according to government reply was 13,507.

Modhadia alleged that there are large scale irregularities in procedures of census of animals.

“Figures are finalized on the basis of estimates, and actual numbers are not derived carefully,” he said.
