Ahmedabad, 5 June 2012

12957/12958 Ahmedabad-New Delhi Swarna Jayanti Rajdhani Express, one of the most popular trains operating between Ahmedabad and New Delhi was relaunched on 13 April, with new LHB coaches.

The Ahmedabad division of Western Railway is now extremely happy with the performance of new LHB coaches, as multiple gains have been achieved through new coaches, including additional revenue, lesser pollution and more capacity to accommodate extra number of passengers.

“In the past 12 coaches of Rajdhani could accommodate 650 passengers, but now same number of LHB coaches accommodate 26 more passengers,” said divisional railway spokesperson.

“Income per trip in past was Rs 9,10,000, which is Rs 10,36,000 now, Rs 1,26,000 more per trip thanks to new LHB coaches,” he added.

The spokesperson further said, “thanks to LHB coaches, diesel worth Rs 47 lakh will be saved per year in Rajdhani express. Earlier, one trip used to consume 3600 liter diesel, which is now 3420 liter. This means, on every trip, 5% diesel is saved.”

“Thanks to LHB coaches the Ahmedabad division of western railway will get additional income of Rs 9,23,00000 through passenger fare, and additional income of Rs 47 lakh through savings on diesel, thus the total additional revenue would come at Rs 9,70,00000” the spokesperson said.

“From Ahmedabad, each person would reach New Delhi consuming only 4.64 liter fuel, which is very less compare to travel by air or by road. Per head CO2 generated through rail journey would be 11.96 kg, while through air travel it would be 131 kg and road travel 30.5 kg. Thus the new Ahmedabad-New Delhi Swarna Jayanti Rajdhani train with LHB coaches is environment friendly too,” the spokesperson said.
