DeshGujarat News, Mehsana, 8 June 2012
Gujarat Congress’s Patel gathering attracted moderate to high number of Patidars from five districts of north Gujarat. The crowd was not amazingly high, but was in good number.
Patel leaders including Siddharth Patel, Narhari Amin, Dinsha Patel, Jivabhai Patel, Natubhai Patel etc addressed the gathering, while all non-Patel leaders of the party including Shri Modhwadia, Shankersinh Vaghela etc remained absent and sent their messages.
The speeches were as usual about Patidar pride and ‘injustice’ of the state government.
North Gujarat has ten Kadva Patidar dominated assembly seats. Of them nine are with BJP while one (Kalol) is with the Congress party. The Congress party got a major success in north Gujarat’s Patels when its rich candidate from Surat Jivabhai Patel won Lok Sabha poll in 2004 on Mehsana seat. However he lost the seat in 2009 Lok Sabha poll, and BJP recaptured the seat.
