Gandhinagar, 23 August 2012

About 2,500 acre of land will be allocated at a token rate of Rs. 1 per acre; water will be supplied from canals free of cost

As per a decision taken during the cabinet meeting on August 21, 2012, held to consider various relief measures to deal with the scarcity situation, the land acquired by Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd (SSNNL) on the banks of Narmada Main Canal and other branch canals under the Sardar Sarovar Project (SSP) will be used to cultivate some fodder crop such as lucerne, maize, millet & juvar. The move is aimed at easing the shortage of fodder.

A decision has been taken to allow such cultivation in the land acquired on the banks of canals in which Narmada water is flowing i.e. Narmada Main Canal and branch canals.

Accordingly, about 2,500 acres of land in Vadodara, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar districts; two districts in Saurashtra namely Rajkot & Surendranagar and Mehsana, Patan and Banaskantha districts in North Gujarat will be allocated for cultivation at a token rate of Rs. 1 per acre. Water from the canals will also be supplied for cultivation free of cost.

Any Panjrapol/Gaushala, Farmers Co-operative, Milk Producing Co-operative, other Co-operative or Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee can cultivate fodder crop in such land with an upper limit of 25 acre, while in case of an individual farmer, the limit is 2 acre.

They can use the land for a period of one year. Necessary approval for the purpose will be given by the Mamlatdar of the respective taluka. The prescribed application form, to be submitted to the office of the Mamlatdar, is available on the website of SSNNL – www.sardarsarovardam.org or it can be obtained from the Mamlatdar’s office.
