Centre gives security boats, state not appointing crew: Gohil

Gandhinagar, 24 August 2012

Leader of opposition Shaktisinh Gohil has demanded that the selected crew for Marine security of Gujarat coast should be immediately given appointment letters to beef up the coastal security of Gujarat.

In a statement issued here Gohil said, “Government of India has sanctioned an Rs 300 Crore plan for security of Gujarat’s costal border under which boats have been purchased with the money provided by Government of India. The selection process of the three member crew of each of these boats was over in January this year. However, no appointments have been made yet. As a result, expensive and useful boats are lying unutilized.”

He added that the staff of the marine police station has not been appointed and the state govt is not taking any steps for the modernization of these police stations.

He further said that non appointment of the staff amounts to criminal negligence. In Mumbai terror attacks, a Gujarat boat Kuber was used.

Attacking on Chief Minister over this issue Gohil said, “the CM wants terrorists to come to Gujarat, because if there will be terrorism in Gujarat, he will get a chance to cover up his weaknesses and his vote bank would be strengthened.”
