A two-day old strike of rickshaws ended today after successful talks between the rickshaw unions and senior minister Nitin Patel.
Rickshaw drivers were on strike since 12 February morning for 72 hours against recent hike of Rs 4.35 per Kg in CNG rates by Gujarat Gas company. As per the earlier announcement by rickshaw unions, the strike was to end on Friday night, but due to successful negotiation with the state government, the unions have declared end of the strike on Thursday evening itself.
According to sources, the state government in this meeting promised rickshaw unions to permit Re. 1 hike in minimum fare within next two weeks.
It should be mentioned that more than one lakh rickshaw owners of Surat, Ankleshwar, Bharuch, Bardoli and Navsari in south Gujarat were on strike.
