500 MW sixth unit of Ukai thermal power station commissioned

Sixth unit of Ukai thermal power station has been commissioned, Energy Minister Shri Saurabh Patel today made this announcement in Gujarat assembly.
Saurabh Patel informed the assembly house that the latest unit of Ukai thermal power plant has been coal fired, synchronized and commissioned.
With fresh addition of a 500 MW new unit, the total capacity of 800 MW Ukai thermal power plant is now 1350 MW.
With this Gujarat’s total installed power capacity has touched 21662 MW mark.
The Ukai Thermal Power Station is located near Ukai Dam on Tapi River in Tapi District. It is a Coal Based Power Station. There are two units of 120 MW each (Unit no. 1 & 2), two units of 200 MW each (Unit no. 3 & 4) , one unit of 210 MW (Unit no. 5), and now one unit of 500 MW. All the above units are of BHEL make. Commissioning dates of unit no. 1 to 5 are 19.03.1976, 23.06.1976, 21.01.1979, 11.09.1979 and 30.01.1985 respectively, while unit no. 6 has been commissioned on 4 March 2013.
Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi had performed ground breaking for the 6th unit on 1 September 2007.
