No additional gas for power, don’t plan gas power plant till 2015/16:Centre
April 23, 2013
By our correspondent, New Delhi, 23 April 2013
The Gujarat government, and especially the Power minister regularly complains in public forums about lack of gas supply to state’s power stations. Now in an answer given in Rajya Sabha, MoS (I/C) Power Shri Jyotirditya M. Scindia has said that centre has no additional gas available for gas based power plants due to reduced production of domestic gas.
“There is no additional gas available for allocation to the gas based power plants due to reduced production of domestic gas. The Ministry of Power has not allocated gas on firm basis for the upcoming power projects i.e. GSPC Pipavav Power Company Ltd., GSEG expansion projects and Dhuvaran CCPP-III in the Gujarat State,” Scindia said in his answer.
“The Gujarat State Government/Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) have requested for allocation of gas to meet shortages being experienced by existing plants and also to meet the requirement of gas for new plants. However, due to the reduced availability of domestic gas, no additional allocation could be made to any power plants including Gujarat projects so far,” he added.
The minister further said, “MoP/Central Electricity Authority has issued an advisory to all the developers not to plan for any new domestic gas based power plants till 2015-16, as there is no certainty of availability of the same.”
The minister however said that the request of Clubbing/Diversion of gas of Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited(GUVNL) has been approved by the Government.
In separate answer, following details on gas production were shared in the parliament
