Ahmedabad, 1 July 2013
Amul has once again increased milk price by Rs. 2 per liter. Amul has done this for 17th time since year 2006. Prices of milk in Gujarat are more than doubled in last seven years. Almost all major media houses enjoy huge revenue from Amul advertisements, and perhaps therefore don’t cover what’s going on in Amul. Also neither the central government, nor Gujarat government seems concerned about this issue. Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation(GCMMF) has seen two Gujarat BJP politicians Mr. Bhatol and Mr. Vipul Chaudhary at helm, but it seems, the issue of frequent price hike has never been a matter of concern for them! Amul always maintains its stand that growing input costs are responsible for frequent price hikes, but neither the media nor government take time to scrutinize whether reasons like internal financial mismanagement and unnecessary spending are responsible for frequent price hike or not!
