Ahwa, 1 July 2013
In recent years, farming of emu birds has been on rise in south Gujarat, but contrary to claims made by the agents, the farming has not turned out much profitable. In a latest incident, someone – probably some emu farm owner released more than two dozen emu birds in Vansda national park in Dang district. The foresters and locals were surprised to find so many Australian emu birds in domestic forest! With the help of the Nature club of Surat, and local volunteers, some emu birds are captured from the forest of Vansda during last week-end, while some others are still roaming free. The Forest department is attempting to trace and capture all emu birds released in jungle, to carry out medical check-up and ensure whether they are released in jungle due to some untreated infectious disease.
