Rajkot may get a new dam at Bamanbor

Here is really a good news for Rajkot.

The district may get a new reservoir/dam near Bamanbor.

According to state minister and Rajkot MLA Govindbhai Patel, technical survey for new dam near Bamanbor has been completed and feasibility report has been positive.

Patel has proposed three dams for Rajkot city/district. Bamanbor is one of them. North side of Jetpur and a place between Dhoraji and Upleta are other dams proposed by Patel. Of these three, the survey work at Bamanbor site is completed.

Patel believes that proposed dam at Bamanbor is likely to match the size of existing Aaji dam(29 ft). He believes that Rajkot is not able to attract new major industrial units due to the problem of water. Some kind of major initiative is needed in this direction. A new dam near the city could be one option. Discussion has been held with the Chief Secretary in this regard and the government has given in-principal approval for this project.

He said Bamanbor has hill and river both, and therefore it is a good site. Moreover Surendranagar’s Dholi dhaja dam is filled with water through Narmada project. Proposed Bamanbor dam can get water from Dholidhaja route in difficult time.

Patel is hopeful that ground breaking for new dam may take place this year itself.

It has to be mentioned that one of the issues the Congress party had propogated in the last Gujarat assembly general elections campaign was that the BJP government in Gujarat had not built a single dam or fishing port in the state.
