Ahmedabad, 14 October 2013
Mr. R S Sodhi and BJP man Vipul Chaudhary (who also went to flirt with Rahul Gandhi during latter’s recent visit to Ahmedabad) led Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets the Amul brand of milk, has again raised the price of Amul milk.
The price of all Amul milk variants are raised by Rs 2 a litre with effect from October 15 in New Delhi and Mumbai. In Gujarat, the price rise will be made effective only by the month-end .Following the price rise, Amul Gold (full cream) milk will cost Rs 44 a litre, compared to the current price of Rs 42, while Amul Taza (toned milk) will cost Rs 34 a litre, up from the current Rs 32. The new price of Amul Slim and Trim double toned milk will be Rs 30 a litre, compared to the existing price of Rs 28.
Like always, managing director of GCMMF R S Sodhi said factors like 18% food inflation and 15% rise in cattle feed prices are responsible for 10% price hike. During his tenure Sodhi has been regularly in news just for one reason of price hike. If Amul was known for white revolution for good reasons, Mr. Sodhi it seems is earning fame for price revolution for bad reasons.
With average daily milk procurement of over 11.5 million litres per day (lpd), Amul sells 3.5 million litres of milk daily in Delhi and Mumbai markets. Besides Gujarat, Mumbai and Delhi markets, Amul also supplies milk to Kolkata, Kanpur, Lucknow and Nagpur, among others.
