Gundran double murder: Seven arrested from hideout in canal

Police have arrested seven accused in Gundarana village double murder case in which local VHP leader and his brother who was Sarpanch of the village were killed brutally by a group of around dozen locals from Sandhi Muslim community.

Police have recovered country made pistol and two motorcycles. Accused were hiding in Gomtivala canal closer to forest limit near Katroli village of Savarkundla taluka’s Kedaria belt.
The area was cordoned by district police’s six teams ahead of arrests.Police have recovered three guns, swords and sharp weapons from a house of accused.
About the murders
Murder of Gundran village sarpanch Bharatbhai Khuman and his brother and Liliya taluka rural president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad Ajitbhai Khuman shocked the locals in rural Amreli district last week.
A group of over dozen Muslims killed both brothers on Saturday evening. Khuman brothers were attacked when they were at under construction site of warehouse. Bharatbhai’s dead-body was located at foundations of warehouse, while his brother’s dead-body was found at 50-60 ft distance in market.
Dead bodies of both victims were cremated amid heavy police presence. Two SRP platoons, 3 DySPs, 6 Police Inspectors, 25 Police Sub Inspectors and 300 police men are on alert in this area to prevent any backlash against Muslims.
Local member of parliament Naranbhai Kachhadia, MLA VV Vaghasia, district VHP president Mansukhbhai Raiyani, Taluka panchayat president Manjulaben Viradia etc were present during cremation of bodies.
Police booked Mohammad Nuru, Imran Mohammad, Salim Abdul, Khalid Mohammad, Dinu Bhikhu, Usman Nuru, Hakim Nuru, Sumal Abdul, Yunus Munu, Islamil alias Munu Yunus and others for double murder.
Circle police inspector RP Gautam has been handed over the probe.
