Junagadh, 12 March 2014
According to a new notification, Junagadh Municipal Corporation(JMC) will have 60 Councillors. Feedback on new delimitation are invited within the limit of ten days as per the notification.
As per new delimitation, JMC shall have 20 wards instead of present strength of 17 wards. Each ward will have three Councillors. Thus the total number of Councillors will be 60 instead of present figure of 51.
While 20 seats will be reserved for women, 5 will be reserved for Schedule class(SC), 1 for tribal and 6 for other backward class. Thus 32 out of total 60 seats will be in reserved category.
As per year 2011 population, each ward will have 15,973 people. Total number of people living in JMC limit is 3.11 lakh.
It should be mentioned here that out of total seven municipal corporations(Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar and Junagadh), only Junagadh is ruled by Congress party. JMC elections will take place this year.
