Ahmedabad, 21 April 2014
The Election Commission of India(ECI) team led by Chief Election Commissioner Mr. Sampath is on one-day visit to Gujarat today.
A day long visit of ECI started with meetings with political parties in Ahmedabad.
Gujarat Congress president Arjun Modhwadia during his meeting with ECI demanded that election on Vadodara Lok Sabha seat should be postponed till last phase of polling. Modhwadia said former BJP Mayor of Vadodara Shabdasharanbhai was caught with unaccounted money in Ahmedabad. The matter should be probed by officers from outside Gujarat, and till that probe is over, the polling should be postponed.
On the other hand the BJP delegation complained about number of complaints pending before EC. BJP office bearer Parindu Bhagat said his party had filed sixteen complaint, but only two of them were cleared.
Bhagat said, “we filed sixteen complaints and only two of them were cleared by ECI. We complained against Beni Prasad Verma, and the ECI passed strictures against Verma just two days back, but on very next day Verma again passed objectionable remark. So we told EC, what was the relevance of their stricture?”
