BJP today hit out at the Election Commission for allowing the Congress Vice President’s rally and denying permission to that of Narendra Modi’s at same venue.
Rahul’s roadshow was allowed in Beniya Bagh, where Modi was refused permission by the Election Commission to hold rally due to security reasons, prompting an angry reaction from BJP.
“Poll panel has different yardsticks for BJP and other parties. It is blot on the electoral process where a PM candidate has not been allowed to hold rally in his constituency. Why were security reasons cited for Modi and not for the other leaders who are campaigning there? It is now clear that the permission was denied due to political reasons and not for security reasons,” BJP leader Arun Jaitley said.
“Rahul ji can hold 50 roadshows. There is no issue, but denying us permission and allowing him is wrong,” Meenakshi Lekhi of BJP said.
“None of the top UP police officers expressed security concerns on Modi ji’s rally, but only the DM of Varanasi,” Lekhi added.
“Narendra Modi will win by lakhs of votes, rest of the candidates in Varanasi will lose their deposit,” said Ravi Shankar Prasad.
