Women allotted morning time in AMC run swimming pools

New Delhi, 2 July, 2014

The Ahemdabad Municipal Corporation(AMC) has taken a decision to change the timings of three swimming pools to favour women swimmers.

A group of working women was seeking slots in morning and evening for women at AMC run swimming pools. They complained that working women are unable to join swimming pool in the afternoon, and therefore they should be allotted morning or evening slots which are exclusively allotted to gents.

After taking some time, AMC has now granted an hour in morning to women swimmers at three swimming pools. The same hour was earlier allotted to Gents.

The change in timing is going to take place in Sardar Patel stadium, Vasna swimming pool and Ranip swimming pool. It will be effective from 1st August this year.

The AMC in its statement said:As Anandiben Patel has become the first woman Chief Minister and Minakshiben Patel is Mayor of Ahmedabad, this decision has been taken on experimental basis to give strength to women.

The AMC further stated that if this experience proves successful, it will be replicated at other AMC run swimming pools too.
