AMC clarifies why Tran Darwaja witnessed water logging, Bhadra Plaza project not responsible

Ahmedabad, 25 July 2014

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation today denied reports that alleged Bhadra Plaza project was responsible for water logging in Tran Darwaja area on Thursday in city.

The AMC today in a statement said that the project has been planned keeping the drainage system, water carrying pipe lines, rain water management of entire Bhadra area in mind and its implementation is undergoing as per the plan.

The AMC said that due to heavy rain during 23rd July night and 24 July morning in entire Bhadra plaza area only Tran Darwaja side witnessed water logging. When checked it was found that catch pit near Bava Latif street was opened by locals and it was blocked due to plastic waste dumped by hawkers who do their business on road side.

Elevated manhole was found in broken condition and catch pit’s connection in manhole was uncovered. Local garbage and plastic waste had caused blockage in the line due to which rain water was unable to move.

Even after hours long work during night by Khadia ward engineering department workers, and lot of cleaning through manhole jetting machine, the line couldn’t be made functional.

Today on 25 July, pumps were operated to flush out the water which was passed to drainage line. After extensive cleaning in manhole the line could be made operational.

AMC has released the photographs of plastic waste and other type of garbage that had blocked the line.

A prominent local vernacular daily had published a story and blamed AMC’s development work at Bhadra Plaza for water logging in Tran Darwaja area today.
